9/15: Oppose The SHARE Act (Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act)

HR 3668 has passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee and is moving FAST in Congress. This NRA-backed bill would make it easier for felons and domestic abusers to buy gun silencers – putting gun industry profits ahead of safety. Democratic members of the House Natural Resources Committee joined in condemnation of this bill that weakens public safety, unnecessarily deregulates gun silencers and makes it harder for federal authorities to regulate armor-piercing bullets. In the wrong hands, silencers make it harder for bystanders and law enforcement to react quickly to shootings. While we’re fighting to make our communities safer, gun manufacturers are looking for profits any way they can. You can imagine how much more difficult it would be for people to escape a mass shooting situation in a public place if the sound of gunshots is silenced. The gun lobby says this legislation is about protecting the hearing of hunters. That’s nonsense. The bill is a massive giveaway to gun manufacturers as gun sales decline.

SUGGESTED MEMBER SCRIPT: “Hi, my name is …, I’m a constituent from “i.e., Durango” zip code 81***. I STRONGLY OPPOSE THE SHARE ACT, H.R. 3668, which would deregulate the sale of gun silencers, make it harder for federal authorities to regulate armor-piercing bullets, and ease restrictions on interstate transportation of weapons. Local police departments are unanimously opposed to expanding the availability of gun silencers.
