5/25: President Trump’s Proposed Budget

President Donald Trump is proposing a $54 billion increase in military spending in proposed budget. The problem is, the increase would take $54 billion from domestic agencies and give it to the Department of Defense. These cuts include everything from the environment to education to medical research.

HOUSE OR SENATE BILL #: President Trump’s proposed budget.

SUGGESTED MEMBER SCRIPT:

“Hi, my name is …, I’m a constituent from zip code 81***. I oppose the President’s proposed budget adding $54 billion to the Department of Defense unless the President articulates what strategic value it adds to the already huge Department of Defense budget and how the spending would be prioritized. I am very concerned because this increase will hurt domestic programs that are important to me.”

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:

There is no evidence that the Department of Defense requires the increase, and the increase is paid for by reducing nearly every domestic cabinet’s budget.
