Border Support

June 2, 2019 @ 8:00 am - July 8, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

NAME OF EVENT:  Travel with FLC Group to perform volunteer work in migrant shelters

DATE:  June 2 -June 8 2019

WHERE:  Tijuana, Mexico

BACKGROUND INFORMATION Professor Ben Waddell at Fort Lewis College was part of a delegation who traveled to the US border at Tijuana, during semester break at FLC. Perhaps you attended the event on campus when they reported on their experience volunteering with organizations assisting immigrants who were seeking entry into the United States.

DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: Dr. Waddell will be conducting an opportunity for students at FLC to participate in a similar experience this summer. Since so many community members have expressed an interest in volunteering to aid and assist potential immigrants, Dr. Ben Waddell has arranged with his connections in Tijuana to include a few community members.

If you would like to be a part of this unique opportunity, please contact Professor Waddell at (719) 480-0479, or by email: ejwaddell@fortlewis.edu .

He is taking a group of FLC students to Tijuana and Guanajuato from June 2nd through June 22nd. He also happens to be on the board of Companeros and is interested in helping bridge our community with the border.  On that note, he’s willing to take additional members from the community to Tijuana. Anyone interested in traveling with the group should contact him at benjaminjameswaddell@gmail.com .

The trip costs would include fixed costs and a donation to Companeros. The dates of the trip would be June 2ndthrough June 8th. The trip would include a week of volunteer work in migrant shelters, which mainly service deportee populations in Tijuana.  In addition, anyone who goes on the trip will have the opportunity to learn about Tijuana’s unique history as well as the recent history of the border wall.
