6/23: Upcoming Vote on Healthcare Bill – Join our DEMONSTRATIONS!

**FURTHER DEMONSTRATIONS CANCELLED…SAVE YOUR ENERGY FOR AFTER JULY 4TH…BUT, COME PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE!** The Senate is scheduled to vote on the GOP health care bill on Thursday, June 29, 2017! This bill is actually worse than the House bill and will result in loss of health care coverage for millions of Americans. In addition to major cuts to Medicaid and reductions in subsidies for coverage, it shifts the burden of responsibility for coverage onto states, allows waivers so states can opt out of essential health benefits, allows insurance companies to charge more for coverage based on health status, and increases the cost of coverage by a factor of 5 or more for older Americans. This bill was developed in secret by a small group of Republican Senators and revealed just yesterday.

We only need 3 Republicans to vote against this bill in order for it to fail. Colorado expanded Medicaid coverage under Obamacare, so if Medicaid is cut back, a disproportionate number of Coloradans will suffer. Senator Gardner’s “NO” vote is critical.

ACTIONS:

  1. CALL OR WRITE TO SENATOR GARDNER (see below)
  2. PARTICIPATE IN DEMONSTRATIONS NEXT WEEK (see details below)

WHO TO CONTACT :

Call Sen. Cory Gardner, ASAP.

Suggested language:

My name is _____. I am a constituent from (Durango) (zip code). I am asking Sen. Gardner to vote NO

for the Senate health care bill. That bill would result in millions of Americans and many thousands of Coloradans losing their health care. Passing a bill this critical and far reaching should not be done in secret without discussion and debate on its consequences, as well as without public hearings. Vote in the best interests of your constituents, not just in support of your party.
