10/24: House Budget Opposition #2 (Vote on Oct. 26!)

Budget dramatically cuts Medicaid by $1 Trillion and Medicare by $470 billion. Cuts Meals on Wheels and Social Security disability programs. Slashes public housing by $1.8 billion or 29 percent. If this budget is passed, middle and working-class Americans will suffer, especially older adults, children, and people with disabilities who depend on programs like Medicaid. Budget would take effect as soon as the House passes it, and unlock the reconciliation process in the Senate, paving the way for a $1.5 Trillion tax cut of which 80% goes to the Top 1%. Also, budget allows for oil exploration to begin in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

HOUSE BILL #

H. Con. Res. 71

SUGGESTED MEMBER SCRIPT

Hi, my name is …, I’m a constituent from “i.e., Durango” zip code 81***.  I oppose the budget proposal, H. Con. Res. 71. Cutting Medicare, Medicaid, public education, and the social safety net is not the way to help working-class Americans. I urge Rep. Tipton to also reject any funding cuts to programs like SNAP and public housing. These programs are cost-effective, improve recipients’ health, and serve as a critical bridge out of poverty for vulnerable families. Cutting these programs for a $1.5 Trillion tax cut for the wealthy is unacceptable! Thank you for your time.”
