6/16: Write Governor John W. Hickenlooper & Tell Him to Support the Paris Agreement!

President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement was a disaster and embarrassment. Governors of many States have declared continued support for action to meet the Agreement. We feel Colorado should join other states and countries in committing to fight climate change.

NAME OF ISSUE:

Encourage Governor of Colorado to support climate action to meet the Paris Agreement.

SUGGESTED MEMBER SCRIPT:

“I am writing as a Coloradan who is deeply concerned about Colorado’s slow pace of action to reduce carbon emissions in our state. While I applaud your recent strong statement about President Trump’s unwise withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, Colorado’s existing actions to reduce emissions aren’t enough for us to reach the Paris Climate Agreement goals.

We must take immediate, effective action to reduce carbon emissions and do our part in this important international effort. Colorado’s past efforts to increase renewable energy and reduce methane emissions were good steps, but they are not enough. I ask you to please put policies in place that enable Colorado to do its part to meet the Paris Climate Agreement’s goals of limiting global temperature increases to 2°C and making every effort to limit warming to 1.5°C.

I am concerned about protecting our state’s quality of life, economy, and safety from the disastrous effects of climate change. Colorado is well-positioned to lead the effort to reduce carbon pollution, but we need your leadership and commitment to do so.

Our town along with numerous other Colorado communities are pledging action to combat climate change; I encourage you to join us and the many other States who have declared we will continue to support climate action to meet the Paris Agreement.”
