LPEA Election: Vote by May 2nd!

If You Pay an Electric Bill, You Can Vote for LPEA’s Board of Directors (regardless of citizenship or voter registration).

This year’s election is very important:  Renewable energy continues to be LESS EXPENSIVE than coal in Colorado. Yet, LPEA is required to buy 95% of our electricity from Tri-State (which generates 60% of its electricity from coal) until 2050.  We need directors willing to do what is best to keep our rates low, our local economy thriving, and our air and water clean.  We need directors who are forward thinking and willing to explore options.

Only 25% of our community votes in the LPEA election.

After considering our mission statement and the statement of the candidates for the LPEA Election, your co-facilitators of Indivisible Environment/Climate are sharing with you the candidates they think will be most supportive of our mission to advocate for the protection of the environment; and against policies that contribute to climate change; and for solutions to climate change. This is not an endorsement of any particular candidate by Indivisible Durango.

Jack Turner (District 4) – Jack Turner is running for re-election to the LPEA Board.  He wants to keep our rates low, boost our local economy and protect our environment.  He is a consensus builder and listens to all points of view. He has opposed every rate increase. He wants to make sure LPEA looks at all options to pursue affordable, local, clean power and that boosts our economy and protects our environment.

Jeff Mannix (District 2) – thinks it is important for LPEA to plan for future technologies. He wants to stop the increase in wholesale rates.  Tristate’s rates are no longer competitive and Jeff Mannix wants to explore other options to keep our rates low and generate power locally. This will keep our money local and help to create good, local jobs.

Holly Metzler: (District 1) – is committed to working for secure and affordable rates. She wants to help lead LPEA to the future in this environment of cheaper renewable energy.
District 3, City of Durango, has only one candidate. You will not receive a ballot.
